Customer Review: A Plethora of Pictures. Practical Advice on Choosing a Ring.

This "Diamond Ring Buying Guide" does not go into as much detail as some other guides in its discussion of the 4Cs -cut, color, clarity, carat weight. It says little about price and nearly ignores laboratory grading reports. But where other books may only describe the 4Cs, Renee Newman shows readers lots of photos of diamonds under 10x magnification. An abundance of illustrations is the strength of Newman's guides. In addition to close-ups of the stones, there are photos of diamonds mounted in a variety of traditional and unusual rings, which may provide inspiration and ideas if you're shopping for a special ring. Chapters on Gold & Platinum, the pros and cons of different mounts, and advice on how to choose a mount that suits your lifestyle offer practical advice that I haven't seen in other diamond-buying guides.



Newman expands upon the traditional 4Cs by separating cut quality from cutting style and adding 2 new criteria, so the diamond price factors addressed in this book are: cut quality, color, carat weight, clarity, cutting style, transparency, and treatment status. The author feels that transparency and treatments were not issues when the idea of 4Cs was established, but now many treated and low-quality stones are on the gem market, so these factors merit separate discussion. I and SI3 diamonds with poor transparency are now being sold in some jewelry stores, and about one-third of diamonds sold in the US are treated. Most of Newman's 5Cs and 2Ts are given their own chapter. We get the basics with lots of pictures, which helps. I found the discussion of fluorescence ambiguous. Criteria for cut grades are provided for GIA, AGS, and HRD grading systems.



There is a lot of good information in the "Diamond Buying Guide", including some pointers and advice on choosing a ring that I haven't seen elsewhere. I found comparisons of the characteristics of white gold and platinum very useful. Likewise the descriptions of mounts and the practical considerations in choosing a ring style. The book concludes with some "do's and don'ts" of cleaning your diamond rings, buying tips, and a quiz so that you can test your knowledge of 5 crucial chapters. I would consult more than one buying guide before shopping for a diamond, but this one offers some valuable advice, and the photographs make it a pleasure to peruse. This is a wonderfully crafted doll, Mattel pulled no punches in his creation. I do not know why he is not as popular as the other Lord of the Ring dolls, but he is very attractive on his own. He has the obligatory pointed ears and white blond hair and the clothing is very well made. I would not suggest this as a plaything for younger people, since his accessories are rather delicate. The only "wrong" thing about him is that the Ken doll is not as thin as an elf should be - but I can live with that.

I would definitely recommend buying this product if you have any problems with your piercing healing.. keloids, infections, etc. I recently got my navel pierced about 6 months ago. It was doing fine and then got infected. I did everything I was told by the piercer... sea salt soaks, washing with antibacterial soap, etc. but nothing seemed to work! After failed attempts and considering taking out my barbell (which I didn't want to!), I bought this product. After only about 4 days of use, it is almost back to being healed and looks great! I will definitely buy more of this when I run out. :)

I got my belly button pierced about 8 months ago and it never got infected. About a month ago, it formed a large abscess and I couldn't get it to go away. I tried multiple products including Bactine, which seemed to help but not completely work. I have used this spray for about 5 days now and the infection is gone! I used the 1 1/2in size to enlarge the hole in my granite counter top to accommodate a new hot water tap that replaced a soap dispenser. I first cut a 1 1/2in hole in a piece of plywood, taped it to the counter that drilled away while my wife sprayed cold water at the bit to keep it cutting smooth. All and all I would say the bit worked very good, great for the money.

Customer Review: Great product - for a drill press

If you have a vertical drill press, this is a great set of diamond hole saws. Works great for cutting out the holes for pipes in marble tile, slate, etc. Comes in a nice little case to keep everything organized.



If you are trying to use these with a regular hand drill, it isn't easy. Unlike wood hole saws, there is no pilot bit to stabilize and center your hole. Since there is no pilot bit, there is nothing to hold the saw against slippery marble or ceramic tile. If you just try to go at it, the saw will walk right across the front of your work and ruin it with huge scratches. To avoid this, you have to VERY CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY seat the saw edge into the hole by running the drill super-slowly. It is hard to tell when you reach the point where you can turn up the drill and just power through.



Definitely practice on some scrap pieces before you try doing this with actual work you want to keep. You can get the hang of it eventually, but it takes a little time to master the technique reliably.



Once seated, they cut through even thick stone with no issues and they don't seem to overheat quickly. They seem reasonably durable, and with light use they should last quite a while.

Of any Partch recording extant, it gives the best picture of the man--as the curmudgeonly, extremely innovative misanthrope that he was, as the composer who was impossibly unlike anyone else before or since. The essence of Partch's music reflects the history of the world--from his particular perspective--the imaginings of ancient Greece to the influence of Chinese musical melodrama, all propelled by homemade instruments based on a 43-tone scale named things like the "Kithara" and the "Boo." These recordings also give the best sense of his philosophy of language in music. Lamenting the whole time how text in music had become detached from the language of everyday life, Partch ran music alongside newsboys' cries and hobos' diaries, following the forms, cadence, and dynamics of speech, rather than the other way around. I have the BGO release of "This Diamond Ring" and "A Session with..." and it sounds spectacular... In my opinion BGO did their homework and remastered these two hard to find CD's perfectly! I had the original album when it was first released (first generation Beatles, Gary Lewis, Monkees, Beach Boys, etc. fan) and I KNOW how these babies should sound... THANKS BGO!!!

Customer Review: Kind of a rush job

I agree in part with Jeff from Iowa. The first album was not the highest quality and that could be the problem. A Session with Gary Lewis is a excellent sounding album.
Gary seems to perform many of the covers of those songs in the live shows. Overall it is a combined set of enjoyable sing-along albums which is what music is there for.
Count Me In might have been the best release that Gary Lewis did. This Diamond Ring a close second and She's Just My Style third.
Gary's covers of Palisades Park, Runaway and Concrete and Clay are exceptional.
This is a fun album and yes I wish Malibu Run (which I CD'd of the film Out of Sight) and the theme from Super Six were on CD also.
Pop in the cd, kick off your shoes and enjoy this one.

I have had ultra sonic jewelery cleaners for years...this is my 3rd one. It is also the least expensive one and it does a terrific job.
